Sakura

In the movie Lost in Translation, Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson’s characters eat lunch at a shabu-shabu restaurant in Tokyo, prompting Murray to wonder rhetorically, “What kind of restaurant makes you cook your own food?” Sakura Shabu-Shabu in Huntington Beach, California is one such place, and despite the cinematic opinion just cited, the trendy West Coast eatery regularly fills its tables with patrons eager to create meals right at their own tables. When owner Andy Dang called upon Rutherford Design to develop the room’s audio and video ambience, we knew it would be something special. We had the opportunity to use a variety of surface mount and recessed speakers, recessed ceiling subwoofers and supply a front end that did complex source switching via simple wall remotes. The end result was a seamless, immersive AV experience that matches the dining and social experience very well.
